The purpose of the Scholastic Honor Society at Callaway High School is not only to recognize the academic achievement of its students, but instill in them the importance of giving back to their community through service. It has been learned that when students make their studies a high priority, they have a stronger chance for academic success at the post-secondary level of education and have a more stable foundation for future learning. Moreover, through the giving of time, talent, and other resources, students not only build character, but a sense of the importance of community and doing things for those who have been such an integral part of who they are. A community prospers from the work, devotion, and love shown by its youth.
To be selected for this membership, a student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 90%, and who has performed at least eight hours of unpaid community service for the year they wish to be considered. Induction for sophomores traditionally takes place during the fall at a time when we also honor students after the First Quarter for their academic achievements. Juniors and seniors are inducted during Awards Night in May.
